Roman Holiday

Thursday, April 27, 2023 – Day 127

On this day we arrived in the port of Civitavecchia, Italy. This is the port city used by ships when they are planning on going to Rome. We have been to Rome and know it’s a long bus ride from the port. Our tour was a “Panoramic Tour of Rome” which is cruise code for a bus ride past the sites (which we did on our first visit here). Now don’t get me wrong, Rome, even by bus is well worth the trip. But after two long days touring Sicily and Naples, we have arrived, this our 127th day on the road, a little travel weary. So… we decided to take a vacation from our vacation!

Normally, on a port day, we are up at 6, have a quick breakfast and are out touring by 8. On a day with a long bus ride, we would have been up by 5:30 and on the road by 7:30. Today we treated ourselves to a bit of a lie in followed by a leisurely breakfast. Laundry was done and a little pre-packing begun. I organized our photos and wrote some blogs. We played some cribbage; I even won a couple of games!

Our ship very rarely seems crowded. On a port day, with the majority of people gone on excursions, it was especially peaceful.

Now rested and ready we are off to Monte Carlo tomorrow!

We may have missed driving by the Colosseum in Rome, but we had a lovely day onboard!
